Remembering Corey: Last Recording We Ever Made

5 Points, by ianegan 173d ago
Corey Had almost stopped going over the Jimmies (understandable) but one day he showed up while i was there so Jimmy goaded us into a "jam" session. Normally I won't participate because it's often the same quality of an open-mic poetry event where a few people take up all the time work-shopping the a new chord they learned that day and I hadn't touched a guitar in at least a year. But that day back around the beginning of November 2021 without the usual slop I knew me and Corey would always click into something and usually we would get something interesting. This time I made a couple of rules.
  1. No effects
  2. As little volume as possible
  3. And slow

Then me and Corey just made up songs while Jimmy got a mic and read from a note book something that neither of us could possibly hear. No edits; one take; done over about an hour with me and Corey just working off each other with maybe eye contact here and there to kind of signal a change or some kind of place to land while Jimmy did a complete mystery performance hunched over the microphone.

About 3 or 4 days later I got the shock of my life when Corey mixed the songs and uploaded them to his youtube channel and it sounded different and really great.

I can't believe this was almost 4 years ago it seems like yesterday. I'm looking for more songs we did and my collaborations with Corey were often great and I miss him dearly.
